Junior Cricket Formats 2018-19

There have been a number of changes to the junior formats this year to try to offer a better range of options for players to play at a level that gives the maximum amount of enjoyment and challenge for as many players as possible.

Midweek Cricket

Midweek Cricket

Modified T20 rules played at 4.30pm until about 7pm on a weekday.

School or club
● 8-aside
● Two grades (Year 9/10 and Year 11-13
● Two Saturday players per team only (unless prior approval by WBOP Cricket)
● Balls, stumps, umpire / match referee / scorer supplied by WBOP Cricket
● Transport to ground may be required but parents not necessarily needed to run to game
● Would maybe appeal to more social players or those who can not commit to all afternoon on a Saturday.

Saturday Cricket

Year 9-10

  • Saturday afternoon cricket

  • School or club

  • Two grades (Div 1, Div 2)

  • Each team must have a registered and police vetted coach looking after the team

  • Some exemptions may be made for Year 11 players at the discretion of WBOP Cricket

  • May involve occasional travel to Rotorua, Taupo or Whakatane

Year 11-13

  • These players are encourage to join a club and play in a Men’s grade.

Superclub Cricket

  • Sunday Club cricket

  • Three grades (Year 7/8, Year 9/10, Years 11-13)

  • Played from October to end of April on alternate Sundays (in most cases)

  • Games to be played on grass as often as possible

  • Each team must have a registered and police vetted coach looking after the team

  • Meant as a competitive league with best players available selected

Last Man Standing

WBOP Cricket have bought the franchise for Last Man Standing and are looking to start a competition before Christmas which can cater for older boys and adults who may like to play a fairly social grade but also more competitive than midweek T20 or Twilight cricket. This competition is to be played on artificial wickets rather than mown outfield and has regional and international competitions as well. More information available soon...
